About Miss LePore
Dear Families, September 2023 Welcome to THIRD GRADE!!! My name is Miss Kathryn LePore. I am excited to spend the year with your student! I hope you all had the opportunity to relax and have some time together this summer. Traveling around the world is one of my favorite things to do and I have been very lucky to see so many amazing countries. After a few years of not leaving the continent because of travel restrictions, I finally got back to some big summer travel. I went to the Italian island of Sicily and got to swim in the crystal clear blue Mediterranean and Ionian sea. I was in my happy place getting to eat delicious pasta every day and visiting many of the beautiful places the island has to offer. Being Italian, it is always fun to go back to the country but this was my first time visiting the island. I can’t wait to go back! While in Europe, I checked another country off my to-visit list and went to Vienna, Austria for about a week. Such an interesting and beautiful city. Everyone was so friendly and I learned a lot about its history and culture. This summer I also spent lots of quality time with my dog that I adopted in 2020. I can’t believe Mochi is already three years old! We went camping and on many trips to the river. We visited Bend to see my family and Ashland to see childhood friends. Summertime in Oregon is fantastic and I definitely took advantage! I am a very outgoing person who enjoys traveling, reading, dancing, swimming and shopping for shoes! My favorite outdoor activity is by far skiing. I started downhill ski racing when I was 8 years old and competed on and off again until a few years ago. I love to go fast! A few summers ago, I was able to fulfill a life-long dream by skiing on another continent. I spent a week in the Alps in Zermatt, a ski resort on the border of Switzerland and Italy. Going down the hill, I was able to make a ski turn and be in Switzerland and then the next turn be in Italy. It was pretty fantastic and I felt extremely lucky to have that experience. Now I have skied on two continents and have four more continents to go (not counting Antarctica...brrrrr). My eyes are now set on skiing in Chile in 2024 (fingers crossed)! This will be my 17th year at Tualatin Elementary and actually in teaching all together. I am a proud DUCK, having graduated from the University of Oregon. After spending my college years in Eugene, Oregon, I was excited to return to the Portland area where I grew up. I have always admired the Tigard-Tualatin School District and am very excited to be at this wonderful school. Tualatin Elementary has a wonderful group of students and staff. We work as such a great team! Go Black Bears! It is important to state that I believe every student that comes to my class is unique and special, but he/she is also part of a learning community where we are respectful, responsible, kind and supportive of one another. My students have and will always be my number one priority and we will make this an amazing third grade year. We will spend some time talking about why school is important and why we are lucky to have education at our fingertips! I have the privilege of having a student teacher this year, Miss Varela Rebecca Varela is a graduate student at Portland State University. She grew up in Tualatin, Oregon and was my student in third and fourth grade. Fast forward and she is now becoming a teacher!! Time flies!! Rebecca is also a proud Duck, graduating from University of Oregon last spring with her undergraduate degree in education. Rebecca is very excited to be a part of Tualatin Elementary AGAIN and looks forward to getting to know all of you! This is going to be a wonderful year! My goal is to challenge your student to succeed in all subjects, and I will do everything I can to provide each student with diverse learning opportunities across the curriculum. We will have a lot of fun as we learn (because everything is better with joy and humor), but I will also maintain high expectations for your child, not only as a student but as a human being as well. I am excited to watch your child grow throughout the year and excel in academics and develop skills to be an active and enthusiastic citizen of the earth. I look forward to working with you to do everything we can to make this a successful, memorable, and enjoyable year for your child. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I really enjoy having weekly family volunteers AND PLEASE visit my classroom website to learn about what is happening in our class.
